We gathered in the boardroom at a quarter after nine,
The slides were full of synergies, the coffee tasted fine.
The CEO said, "People, we must disrupt the space!"
And then our VP Marketing said it with a straight face:
"Let's go for the low hanging fruit!
The low, low, low hanging fruit!
We'll leverage all our learnings
And we'll action on the route
To capture all the value
That is ripe beyond a doubt —
The glorious, the gorgeous,
Low. Hanging. Fruit."
Now nobody asked what orchard, or what season, or what tree.
Or whether someone else had picked it, circa 2003.
We built a task force for it, gave it seven weeks of sprints,
And called in two consultants who all said the same two hints:
(Repeat Chorus)
The fruit hung oh so lowly —
It nearly touched the ground.
But still we formed committees
To ensure it could be found.
We ran a gap analysis,
We socialized the plan,
We circled back on Tuesday
With a deck in Canva, fam.
By Q4 we had metrics showing traction on the path.
The fruit remained untouched, of course — but check this aftermath:
We coined a brand new framework: "Fruit Agility at Scale",
And sold it to a startup for a decent cocktail tale.
"We went for the low hanging fruit!
The low, low, low hanging fruit!
We didn't really pick it,
But we talked a lot about
The untapped market value
Of the visionary route
To harvesting the obvious —
Low. Hanging. Fruit."
